The Elbow Park Hockey Pool, also known as The May Annual, was founded in 1998 or 1999 by a group of friends who attended Western Canada High School in Calgary. The reigning champion of the 2025-2026 season is Kristjan S., also known by various monikers such as Mamaburgers, Classic Kris, and Siggy. With titles in 2024-2025 and 2025-2026, he is the first manager in the pool's recorded history to win back-to-back championships. The annual draft has traditionally been held in the living room of the May family home, with several members of the extended May family being part of the founding group and continuing to participate in the pool today. Over the years, the pool has maintained its cultural significance, addressing a range of topics such as Western Alienation, Calgary Flames roster management, and even issues of racism.
Since the 2021-2022 season, the pool has been overseen by commissioner Rob M., ushering in a period of stability following a turbulent six-year stretch between 2015 and 2021. During that time, the pool experienced three commissioner resignations and five changes in pool management platforms. Since 2021, the league has used TheHockeyPool.com as its platform, despite previous attempts to transition to alternatives such as Yahoo! and ESPN. The pool has largely remained unchanged over the years, with the most notable modification being the introduction of three mid-season add/drop drafts, allowing managers to replace injured or underperforming players. In the 2024-2025 season, a new rule was introduced, enabling managers to pay a small additional mid-season buy-in to replace a player outside of the scheduled add/drop drafts.
Records for winners and standings prior to the 2016-2017 season are incomplete, and no comprehensive records exist prior to the 2010-2011 season.
